Notes: Spirits of the Flowers Keep Watch

This project began as a story of a French herbswoman, Jeanne Barret Dubernat (1740-1807) who, disguised as a man, became the first woman to circumnavigate the globe.

This is a story about stories. About who gets to tell our stories. Who get to become our heroes. It is also a story about nature and power. About truth and pain, beauty and loss.

Using photographs and video, text and poetry, fiction and fact, I create a visual, nonlinear depiction of what remains when memories fade and stories are forgotten. Always the beautiful.
