My Jeanne Baret > Photographs: Floral Interpretations

Floral Interpretations: Making Arrangements In order to better understand the history and geography of Baret's story, in the spring of 2023, I began to look to art history, beginning with paintings and artists of Baret's lifetime and extending to work that references the places where she lived and traveled. In order to meld this work with my interpretations of Baret, I recreated these paintings using flowers. But unlike Baret, I use artificial flowers and plants in my designs, plants sourced from big box merchandisers like Dollar Stores and WalMart. I create and photograph my floral interpretations and place the prints within my home, creating more layers that connect me with my source material.
