a dress yourself
This is an on-going project about the transformative power of piece of clothing, part fairy tale, part documentary. For me the perfect dress offers freedom: transport beyond the everyday to a place without limitation or waistbands.
My mother and sister were gifted seamstresses. I share their eyes for fine fabrics if not their nimble hands. Instead I scour second-hand stores and small boutiques for dresses and other articles that offer a sense of magic to my day.
This is a story of one such dress. Made of sheerness and summer, it's scripted with a flower garden that is open to interpretation. I carry the dress with me when I travel. Sometimes I ask people to wear it. Sometimes it's worn by trees. Sometimes me.
Check back often as this tale continues to evolve.
