Projects > Material Matters

This is an on-going project about the transformative power of clothing; it's part fairy tale, part documentary. For me a dress can offer a portal beyond the everyday to somewhere new, a place beyond constriction or waistbands. Both my mother and sister were gifted seamstresses. I share their eyes if not their gift, so I scour second-hand stores and small boutiques for readymade additions to my dress collection.

This is a story of one such dress. Made of sheerness and summer, it's scripted with a flower garden that is open to interpretation. I carry it with me when I travel. Sometimes I ask people to wear it. Sometimes it's worn by trees. Sometimes me.

Check back often as this tale continues to evolve.
