The work portrays an amalgamation of girlhood energies at an interstitial time when hormones and identities begin to coalesce and friendships, crushes, curiosity, pain, fear, dreams, and other exuberances intermingle and flow freely.
The photographs and objects serve to prepare viewers for the video work. Like a chant, they embody physical and spiritual manifestations of the complexities of nature and girlhood. For the video I combine found footage from a wide range of movies, television, and social media with original images and sound design to recast and reclaim girls’ potent energy.
This is a sleepover experienced on and under one girl’s skin.
The Sleepover is a site-specific installation of color photographs and a multi-channel video installation (14 min loop, color, sound).
